On October 21, ABB Industry Expert Day will take place online at 10am CET. Leaders across the field of marine transportation will join key industry experts to engage and exchange views on a key topic for our industry – and give ABB the chance to actively listen and respond to our customers, at a time when face-to-face meetings are unfortunately so difficult for everyone.

The big questions

The big topic of the day is around the route to achieving greater sustainability in the industry, not just for a greener planet, but because commercial success in coming decades will demand a plan for continually lower emissions.

We’ll be looking into the extent to which existing ships can be sufficiently modernised to meet looming emissions targets; we’ll also discuss the technologies expected to come online in the next decades and the mix of strategies shipowners might adopt to meet, or even beat, industry targets.

The day will comprise a series of different sessions, designed to provide a detailed understanding of how experts and industry leaders foresee the future, and the short-term and longer-term actions owners and operators need to consider.

Kicking off the day, our keynote panel will tackle some of the big questions: Could a shipowner or operator with the will to decarbonise, do so before 2050? How might technology be made ready and fuel available before regulation requires? And are there any commercial arguments for moving faster?

Our expert panel:

  • Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Secretary General, BIMCO
  • Kang-Ki Lee, Senior Vice President, AVL
  • Christos Chryssakis, Business Development Manager, DNV GL
  • Christoph Rofka, Senior Vice President, ABB Turbocharging
